Year 3 Information

Welcome to Eskdale Junior School and Year 3!

There are two classes in Year 3. 3B is taught by Mrs Briggs and supported by Mrs Fowler and 3H is taught by Miss Hackett and supported by Mrs Nicholson.  Mrs Dorn supports the year group working with intervention groups.

Year 3 is an exciting year for children and there is a lot to learn as they transition from infant school to junior school. Below are just a few things to help parents understand more about the year group and some of the organisational things they can help school with.

Diaries

Each child will have a diary that is full of useful information for both parents and children, which will be expected to be handed in daily.  Inside, there is a place to record when parents have read with their child at home. We encourage each child to read at least 3 times a week, which will be recorded in their diary and signed by a parent/carer. Children will be rewarded in class when this happens. Homework, weekly events, times table and spellings scores will also be recorded in the diary. We use this diary as a way of teachers and parents/carers communicating with one another. These are checked daily and signed by a member of staff weekly.

At the back of the diaries are a set of Year 3 Reading Challenges. These challenges link to the Year 3 topics covered and can be completed over the course of the year. When all challenges are complete, the children will receive a very special badge which will be presented by Mr Scruton in assembly!

Homework

Children are set Times Table Rockstar homework each week which will be set each Friday to be completed by Friday evening. There will occasionally be set a short topic homework/activity set. For those children who struggle to complete their homework at home or are finding their homework difficult, there will be 2 homework clubs running at lunchtimes on Mondays and Tuesdays.  Mrs Fowler and Mrs Nicholson will be running these sessions and are always happy to help!

Times Tables

Each week the children are expected to learn the times table that they have been directed to. In year 3, we make sure that we are confident in the 2, 5, 10, 3, 4 and 8 times tables, but if you can 'aim high' and learn the others too, then we will be most impressed.

Each child has a Times Table Rockstar login (the link can be found here) which is stuck in their diaries. We have found that playing these games really helps with learning their times tables and will prepare them for the national multiplication test in year 4. Each week the children are set tasks to do which must be completed as part of their homework.

Click on the Useful Links page to find songs to help learn times tables.

P.E

Children will need to come to school in their school PE kit every Monday, when we will be doing Drumba, and Wednesday. Please ensure your child has a kit suitable for the weather conditions.
