Year 3 Information

Welcome to Eskdale Junior School and Year 3!

There are two classes in Year 3. 3B is taught by Mrs Briggs and supported by Mrs Fowler and 3R is taught by Miss Redhead and supported by Mrs Nicholson. Both classes are supported by Mrs Neylon every morning. Mrs Dorn supports the year group working with intervention groups in the mornings.

Year 3 is an exciting year for children and there is a lot to learn as they transition from infant school to junior school. Below are just a few things to help parents understand more about the year group and some of the organisational things they can help school with.

Each child is sent home with a school reading diary which we ask the children to hand in daily. Inside, there is a place to record when parents have read with their child at home. We encourage each child to read at least 3 times a week, which should be recorded in their diary and signed by a parent/carer. Homework, weekly events, times table and spellings scores will also be recorded in the diary. We use the diary as a way of teachers and parents/carers communicating with one another. These are checked daily and signed by a member of staff weekly. At the back of the diaries are a set of Year 3 Reading Challenges. These challenges link to the Year 3 topics covered and can be completed over the course of the year. When all challenges are complete, the children will receive a special badge which will be presented by Mr Scruton in assembly!

Children are set a piece of numeracy and spelling homework each week. In 3R numeracy will be given on a Tuesday, which will be due in the following Tuesday, literacy/spelling homework on Friday which will be due for the following Friday. In 3R both peices of homework are given on a Friday and handed in the following Friday. There will occasionally be set a short topic homework/activity set. We display this information on the classroom windows for your reference. There will be a reward for those children who manage to hand in every piece of homework in a half term. For those children who struggle to complete their homework at home or are finding their homework difficult, there will be 3 homework clubs running at lunchtime on Tuesday, Thursdays and Fridays, which are run by Mrs Fowler, Mrs Nicholson and Mrs Neylon. They are always happy to help!

Each child will need a P.E kit (see school brochure or click here) at the beginning of each half term which is appropriate for indoor and outdoor lessons.
