Year 4 Information

Welcome to Year 4!

There are two classes in Year 4, 4K is taught by Miss Knightsbridge and supported by Mrs Gordon and 4BG is taught by Mrs Bennett and Miss Graves, and supported by Mrs Kiraly.

Year 4 is an exciting year for children where they build on the foundations of Year 3. Below we have set out our expectations that we welcome your support with.

Diaries

Each child will receive a new Year 4 diary which will needed to be brought into school daily. We expect each child to read at least 3 times a week (homework). Please can you can record any reading done at home in your child's diary and sign it. Diaries will be checked every Friday to ensure the 3 reads have been completed for the previous week (reads will only count if the diary has been signed by an adult).

The diaries will also be used to record homework and weekly events. Times table scores will also be recorded in the diary.

We use this diary as a way of teachers and parents/carers communicating with one another. Please remind your child to hand their diary to a member of staff if there is a note for us to see.

They may also be set ‘Reading Challenges’ to complete – you will find these in the back of your child’s diaries. These challenges link to the Year 4 topics covered and can be completed over the course of the year. When all challenges are complete, the children will receive a very special badge which will be presented by Mr Scruton in assembly!

Homework

Children are set a piece of numeracy (TTRS), reading and spelling/grammar homework each week. TTRS will be set on a Friday and will be due in on the following Friday.  Reading will be checked on a Friday. Homework clubs will be on a Thursday and Friday.

Each term we will set a subject specific project or homework to complete, these will link to the units of work we are learning in each term.

Times Tables

Year 4 is a particularly important year for times tables as in the Summer term children will take part in the Statutory Times Table assessment. Each week the children are expected to learn and practice the times table that they have been directed to.

Each child has a Times Table Rockstar login (the link can be found here) which is stuck in their diaries (same login as last year). Each week the children are set tasks to do on Times Table Rockstar which must be completed by Thursday as part of their homework.
