Welcome to Year 4!
There are two classes in Year 4, 4C is taught by Miss Cameron and supported by Mrs Neylon and 4H is taught by Mrs Hunter and supported by Mrs Deehan. Mrs Bennett supports the year group working with classes Monday to Wednesday.
Year 4 is an exciting year for children where they build on the foundations of Year 3. Below we have set out our expectations that we welcome your support with.
Each child will receive a new Year 4 diary which will needed to be brought into school daily. We expect each child to read at least 3 times a week. Please can you can record any reading done at home in your child's diary and sign it. Diaries will be checked every Wednesday to ensure the 3 reads have been completed for the previous week (reads will only count if the diary has been signed by an adult).
The diaries will also be used to record homework and weekly events. Times table and spellings scores will also be recorded in the diary.
We use this diary as a way of teachers and parents/carers communicating with one another. Please remind your child to hand their diary to a member of staff if there is a note for us to see.
They may also be set ‘Reading Challenges’ to complete – you will find these in the back of your child’s diaries. These challenges link to the Year 4 topics covered and can be completed over the course of the year. When all challenges are complete, the children will receive a very special badge which will be presented by Mr Scruton in assembly!
Children are set a piece of numeracy, literacy and spelling homework each week. All homework will be given out on a Friday and Numeracy and Literacy will be due in on the following Thursday. Spelling homework will be due in on Friday. Each term we will set a subject specific project or homework to complete, these will link to the units of work we are learning in each term.
Each Friday, children will receive a new spelling sheet with spellings to learn for a test the following Friday. They will also need to fill in this sheet for their homework and we will require the children to look at their spellings everyday.
Year 4 is a particularly important year for times tables as in the Summer term children will take part in the Statutory Times Table assessment. Each week the children are expected to learn and practice the times table that they have been directed to.
Each child has a Times Table Rockstar login (the link can be found here) which is stuck in their diaries (same login as last year). Each week the children are set tasks to do on Times Table Rockstar which must be completed by Thursday as part of their homework.
Children will need to come to school in their school PE kit every Friday, suitable for the weather conditions.
