Welcome to Year 4!
There are two classes in Year 4 this year; 4G who are taught by Miss Groves and supported by Mrs Deehan and 4BL who are taught by Miss Lindsey and supported by Mrs Huntley. Mrs Bennett will also be taking groups of children out for interventions in the mornings.
Diaries and reading
Your child will have been sent home with a school reading diary which needs to be handed in daily. Inside, there is a place to record when you have read with your child at home. We want your child to read at least 3 times a week please, which should be recorded in their diary and signed by a parent/carer. There will be rewards given to those that consistently read 3 times each week. Homework, weekly events and times table and spellings scores will also be recorded in the diary. Please feel free to write any messages in here as the diary is checked daily and signed by a member of staff weekly. Equally, we will contact you through the diary when necessary.
At the back of your child’s diary you will find a set of Year 4 Reading Challenges. These challenges link to the Year 4 topics covered and can be completed over the course of the year. If your child manages to complete all of the challenges, they will receive a special badge which will be presented by Mr Scruton in assembly!
Your child will be set a piece of numeracy and literacy homework every Friday which will be due in the following Thursday. For each piece of homework your child will receive a point on their class chart. Diaries will be checked daily but on a Friday reads will be counted, as homework, to ensure they have read 3 times. Each piece of homework must be completed in order for your child to get a homework mark. There will be a reward for those children who manage to hand in every piece of homework in a half term. For certain children who cannot complete their homework at home or are finding their homework difficult, there will be 2 homework clubs running at lunchtimes. However, it will be their own responsibility to remember to go.
We will have regular P.E lessons therefore expect your child’s kit to be in school every day. If your child does not have their P.E kit ready for the lesson, then they will not be able to take part and will have to read or complete spellings practice instead. Please ensure your child has appropriate kit for the weather conditions.
